  2. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1. Help for PMTEX ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  4. The program PM-TeX controls the use of everyday used programs for TeX. These 
  5. include editors, TeX-interpreters, printer- and previewdrivers. The program is 
  6. conceived for the emTeX-system, but can easily be configured for other systems. 
  7.  
  8. By pressing the menuitem File you can select the TeX-file to be processed. 
  9.  
  10. All programs are executed by pressing the according buttons (Edit, TeX, etc.). 
  11. A new session is activated for each program to allow concurrency. Switching to 
  12. active sessions can be performed by pressing the buttons in the mainwindow 
  13. (e.g. you are working with a fullscreen editor: switch to PM-TeX by pressing 
  14. ALT+Esc, switch back to the editor by pressing the Edit-button in the 
  15. mainwindow).

  17. Warning:  Terminating PM-TeX closes all active sessions. A message box is 
  18. displayed and you have to acknowledge your choice. 
  19.  
  20. By pressing the menuitem Settings you can configure the programm. You have to 
  21. specify the corresponding program-names and their arguments. A mixture of DOS- 
  22. (.EXE and .COM) and OS/2-programs is supported. The configuration is saved by 
  23. selecting Save settings.

  25. The main-menu offers buttons for the following sessions:

  42. On top of the Editor-, TeX-, Preview- und Print-buttons appears a status 
  43. indicator for every session:

  47. active    session already activated. 
  48.  
  49. old       a session is activated but should be closed because the corresponding 
  50.           inputfile has changed.

  52. Some of buttons and menu-items of the mainwindow can be accesed by striking 
  53. special keys.

  55. Warning: The old-status is not displayed for an input file updated with an 
  56. editor-session. This version doesnt support long filenames.

  218. enter up to 80 characters for every field. The following character combinations 
  219. have special meanings:

  225.           extension

  244. will be displayed in the option-window for Printer.

  246. CAUTION:
  247.  The following restrictions must be met: 
  248.  
  249. o The prescanner can only process files with the extension .TEU or .ALD. 
  250.  
  251. o TeX processes only files with the extension .TEX. 
  252.  
  253. o The printer and previewer processes files with the extension .DVI. Failure to 
  254.   these limitation will not execute the corresponding programs.

  259. Choose an editor for the  editor-session by highlighting an editor in the list.

  261. You can update or change the editor-list by entering a new editor program-file 
  262. in the entry field or by pressing the deleted pushbutton.

  264. Note:  Up to 8 editors can be maintained in the editorlist.

  266. Note:  You can define editors for DOS and OS/2 sessions. The extensions should 
  267.        be .EXE or .COM.

  273. subdirectories-window and the filename in the Files-window.

  302. You must specify a fully qualified filename for every session. When finished,

  314. Two TeX-format specifications can be selected for PM-TeX:

  316. TeX-Inputformat: The inputfile should be processed by TeX using a TeX plainfile

  318. LaTeX-Inputformat: The inputfile should be processed by TeX using a LaTeX 
  319.           plainfile

  324. By pressing the Edit-button a new editor session is activated or an active 
  325. editor session is switched to. For a new session the actual editor you defined 
  326. in the Editor menu item is choosen to process this session. You may update the 
  327. input file without leaving the editor session. Simply save your file using an 
  328. editor command and press ALT+Esc in full-screen mode. Now you can perform a 
  329. TeX-session by pressing the TeX-button and while this session is running switch 
  330. back to the editor by pressing the Edit button.
